In conjunction with World Vegetarian Day 2018, Berjaya Corporation group of companies
("BCorp") organised a conference and exhibition in collaboration with the Taiwan Buddhist Tzu
Chi Foundation Malaysia ("Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia") and supported by Berjaya Youth
("BYouth"). The 4-day event from 11 to 14 October 2018 was part of BCorp's initiatives to raise
awareness and to further enhance the understanding amongst the Berjaya employees and
members of the public on issues relating to environmental protection and sustainability.
More than 1,000 participants attended the conference themed "Make a Difference for a
Sustainable Future" held on 11 October 2018 at the Manhattan Ballroom, Berjaya Times Square
Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Tan Sri Dato' Seri Vincent Tan, Founder and Executive Chairman of
BCorp, took to the stage and shared his experience on how his 3-day trip in Hualien, Taiwan to
visit the Founder of Tzu Chi Foundation, Master Cheng Yen, had inspired him to become a
vegetarian. Other speakers include Ms Yeo Kar Peng who spoke about Tzu Chi Foundation and
the practice of Environmental, Social and Governance sustainability; Dr. Eddie Chan on the
topic "Food as Medicine"; and Mr. Francis Tan with his interactive presentation titled "Co-exist
with Mother Earth". These three speakers are all highly respected individuals in their respective
fields whom are also dedicated volunteers of Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia.
The 4-day exhibition was held at the Ground Floor and Lower Ground Concourse, Berjaya
Times Square from 10:30am to 9:30pm. The exhibition on the Ground Floor was the culmination
of more than 3 months of efforts put in by the employees from the Corporate Office together
with the various operating companies and subsidiaries of BCorp. Working closely with the
facilitators from Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia, the employees juggled their time and sacrificed
their weekends in developing the concept and layout, sourcing for recyclable materials and
creating engaging visuals and displays for the exhibition. Employees took turns to be on duty to
manage the exhibition throughout the 4 days.
The exhibition at the Lower Ground Concourse was managed by Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia
with fun-filled stage activities, fashion shows and various booths that showcased their
environmental concepts, and handicraft items made from recyclable materials. There was also a
section dedicated to promoting Jing-Si eco-friendly products, food and beverage as well as preloved
items available for sale.
